Toothpaste
I went to a Burt's Bees conference and heard that Fluoride
toothpaste was bad for you. I said "Rrrright!."
Then I went home and did my research and was amazed to discover they
were right. I discovered that Fluoride shuts down the thyroid and
that Japanese studies found that older people had more hip bone
fractures because the Fluoride was leaching the calcium out of their
bones over time. There are no clinical studies on Fluoride!
No proof that it actually helps your teeth. So you do your
research too. The information's out there. There are
some products that can be found without fluoride like Burt's Bees, and
Toms of Main, but I like to do a lot of things myself and this is
my current Recipe.
4 Capsules of Vitamin E 400 IU
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
2 Tablespoons Benzonite Clay powder
1 Tablespoon Sage powder
1Tablespoon Sea Salt
1Tablespoon Licorice Root (optional)
3 Capsules of 300mg Cranberry supplement (dried cranberries)
1/4 teaspoons Stevia powder
1/8 teaspoon Peppermint Oil
1/8 teaspoons Spearmint Oil
1/8 teaspoon Lavender Oil
1/8 teaspoon Basil Oil
8 Drops Myrrh Oil
4 Drops Clove Oil
2 Drops Eucalyptus Oil
3 to 4 Tablespoons Vegetable Glycerin
1. Mix together the baking soda, benzonite clay,
sage powder, cranberry powder (taken out of the capsule), and Stevia
powder. Mix together
2. Add vitamin E, and the Essential Oils.
3. Mix in the Vegetable Glycerin until it becomes a
paste. Less if you like thick toothpaste and more if you
like a thinner toothpaste.
4. Place in a bottle and use as needed.
-Vitamin E stabilizes all the other oils in the
mixture
-Sage has astringent and antiseptic properties that help to prevent
gingivitis. It is said that is might be as effective as
Bloodroot but it's much safer. (Dr. J Duke)
-Cranberries and Blueberries have been found in recent studies to
kill the bacteria that causes cavities in the teeth. http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/pr/news/story.cfm?id=947
-Stevia is included not only for it's sweet taste but for it
antibacterial properties.

-Mint including Peppermint and spearmint are great to freshen the breath
-Lavender kills bacteria
-Basil is used to fight plaque formation on the teeth (Dr.
J Duke)
-Myrrh is used as an anti-inflammatory agent on the
gums.
-Clove is a mild anesthetic
-Eucalyptus stimulates the blood flow which is necessary for healthy
gums and cleans the gums. (Lesley Tierra)
-Licorice root is used for Periodontal disease.
-Vegetable Glycerin is the base and it also
helps to preserve the mixture.
-Salt is used for Periodontal disease.
Where did I get my information?
Different herbalists including Dr James Duke "The Green
Pharmacy", Lesely Tierra "The Herbs of Life", British
Herbalist David Hoffman "The New Holistic Herbal"
There are many other herbs that are used for the teeth.
I once used licorice but stopped because Licorice raises blood
pressure.
Allergic reactions should be paid attention to. Know what you put
in your body. You can be allergic to anything at any stage of your
life. If you didn't have allergies when you were young you can develop
them when you're older.
